Can EPF savings pay for takaful? Yes, if you qualify. But consider the trade-off.
Every working month, your EPF balance grows. It is money intended primarily for retirement. So why would someone consider using part of it for takaful today?
Where does the money come from?
Through the i-Lindung route, eligible EPF members can apply for qualifying protection and pay the yearly contribution from permitted savings. The process is completed using official channels, not by sending money to a person on WhatsApp.
One benefit is that eligible people may be able to obtain protection without paying the entire yearly contribution from their current take-home pay.
Consider the retirement trade-off
The cost is equally important: this is your own retirement money. Any amount used for protection leaves less in the retirement account. Future contributions can change with age too.
Before making a decision, ask: Who depends on my income? How much cover do I already have? Would I still feel comfortable with this retirement trade-off in later years?
Start with your own needs
Lindung Famili focuses on death and TPD. Cegah Famili focuses on 43 specified critical illnesses and death. Read the terms of the plan you are actually considering.
If the numbers make sense, proceed through the official registration route. If they do not, do not feel obliged to sign up.
