43 critical illnesses. What does 'covered' really mean?
People sometimes see a disease name in an insurance or takaful list and assume any diagnosis will lead to a payment. It is not that simple.
A name on the list is only a starting point
In PruBSN Cegah Famili, a qualifying critical illness must meet the definition and severity requirements in the official certificate. A medical diagnosis alone is not a guarantee of a claim.
Examples among the named conditions include cancer, stroke, heart attack, kidney failure and certain major surgeries or neurological conditions. The official list contains 43 specified illnesses and procedures. The precise definitions matter more than the short names.
Angioplasty has a separate limit
There is also an important exception: the angioplasty and related invasive treatment benefit is limited to the lower of 10% of the sum covered or RM25,000. It is not a full 100% payment.
Waiting periods and exclusions
Waiting periods are 60 days for certain conditions including cancer and specified heart-related conditions, and 30 days for other listed critical illnesses, subject to terms. Pre-existing conditions may be excluded.
Critical illness cover is not a medical card
This is not a medical card and it does not reimburse every hospital bill. A critical illness payout also reduces the plan's death benefit.
